Synopsis of Multimodal Presentation

Steve McCurry is a renowned photojournalist known for capturing powerful images of global conflict, culture, and humanity. One of his most iconic photos is Afghan Girl, taken in 1984, which is a portrait of a 12-year-old refugee with striking green eyes and a red scarf. She became a symbol of the Afghan-Soviet war and the refugee crisis. Another important image is Camel and Oil Fires, taken in 1991 during the Gulf War. This photo shows camels walking through blazing oil fields, highlighting the environmental destruction of war. Lastly, McCurry's 1995 image Fishermen on Stilts captures a fading Sri Lankan tradition using soft natural light and balanced composition, turning cultural documentation into visual art. Steve McCurry primarily uses natural light and vivid color, setting him apart from other traditional black-and-white photographers. His work not only educates but also evokes emotion, mixing truth with beauty to humanize global events and connect viewers to distant lives and cultures.

My New Perception of Photography

Reviewing Steve McCurry’s work changed my perception of photography because it showed me that it can be much more than just capturing a moment; it can tell powerful stories, preserve culture, and inspire empathy. His images are not only visually beautiful, but they also carry deep emotional and historical meaning. I now realize that photography can be a form of communication that crosses language and cultural barriers, allowing us to connect with people and events around the world in a more personal way. In all, Steve McCurry’s photos have taught me that photography can both document truth and be a form of art.
